I'm actually glad fate spared me from watching this at the flix 2 years ago. Because.......this is worse than Terminator 4. Cinematography: Can't fault this at least. Well-shot, decent picture. Score: It's Hanz Zimmer at the helm. You're not gonna go wrong and the score really adds to the emotion where it needs to be. Sound mix: Dialogue is coherent. Nothing to mark down. Special & Visual effects: Explosions are well-done and the CG used to create Arnold circa 1984 does an amazing job of recreating his likeness from the 1st Terminator set 31 years before this movie. Writing: OMG.......where do I start? I'll praise the idea of Kyle Reese going to an alternate 1984 where Sarah Connor already knows of his existence and his forthcoming arrival to where everything he knows is now a complete contrast to what he learned from 2029. So that, I will give them credibility. As the most fun aspects of this is a bewildered Reese going to an already altered timeline and where new memories are being implanted in his mind due to the time-stream being altered. This is was also done in Flash-point Paradox where Barry Allen receives new memories due to his changing the past where he saved his mother from being murdered. But then it abandons this momentum by travelling to 2017 to reenact the events of Terminator 2 and to stop Judgement day from happening. Oh FFS????? How many more times is this going to be repeated? And the idea of Sky-net being in humanoid form? I don't need to go into this do I? Although....the idea of the role of John Connor being the savior of mankind to having that flipped and being the ultimate instrument of destruction by having him as a bio-terminator where he's neither man nor machine is inventive. But even that doesn't save this movie from being a train-wreck.
Never had strong female protagonists? Nice try, people! But contrary to popular belief most of us don't have the attention-span of a goldfish. Which is probably how most people felt when having to sit through this condescending piece of nostalgia pandering done wrong.
And with the news that the next movie is ignoring this flick is pleasing but to add further insult to injury is that it's being a direct sequel to Terminator 2. When all the loose ends were already tied up and the chip of the original Terminator and the second along with the T1'000 were destroyed in the melting pit thus ensuring that Sky-net would never happen so that would make any future sequels unnecessary.......THIS IS HURTING MY BRAIN!!!!!!! TRASH THIS MOVIE! Folks? In my honest opinion.....don't buy this movie brand new, don't buy it pre-owned. Heck! don't even illegally download it! (mind you, I wouldn't recommend that anyway, because....rules!) This will be over 2 hours of your life saved by not watching this. It's nothing more than a shameless cash-in to a franchise that should either should be just left alone for a while or finally retire it. Genisys.....You are Terminated! I'll be back! *cue theme music*
