I regard this as a competent sequel.  The actors turned in fine performances, especially with The Rock considering this was his first major movie role while he was still predominantly full-time WWE Superstar at the time, furthermore, I believe he was the WWE Champion at the time of filming his part.

The actual visual effect version of his character was beyond hideous with CG that would have been laughed in 1991, much less 2001.

But aside from that minor discrepancy the writing was strong with the characters having grown since the original movie in 1999 with the O'Connells settling down to get married and having their first child in their son, Alex.

Arnold Vosloo sells it again as the Titular character, Imohtep, with his cold and ruthless demeanor.
