I have to give it to JDF. Another impressive episode featuring Tommy Oliver against another iconic fighting legend in Ryu from Street Fighter.
I will be one to openly admit that I am of the original Power Rangers from the early 90's when JDF debuted as the original Green Power Ranger that would subsequently go onto to be the White Ranger, then the Red Zeo Ranger, Red Turbo Ranger and then the Black Dino Ranger.
The thing I am always impressed with is how youthful and in shape Jason is. Most other men his age are either slowing down or retired from physical competition of any kind of sport.
But due to his years of physical and mental discipline as a martial-artist (of which I cannot even begin to Fathom how disciplined he is) he looks and moves more like a man in his late 20's to early 30's. Very quick paced, agile and strong. Even though setups like this are choreographed, the choreographers went to a lot of detail to make this look as organic as possible, fictitious super powers and dark forces aside you could believe looking at this that the Green Ranger had an uphill task in taking on a Street Fighter legend who is a formidable opponent in his own right even without the powers from the Morphing grid. I love the attention to detail with the wardrobe as the Ryu costume is almost off the screen of the original arcade games and Tommy's Green Ranger outfit almost looks it has an Iron Man Vibe with a little of Sam Flynn's suit from Tron Legacy. That was the thing that bothered from the original Power Ranger series is when you'd see Tommy in the American footage of the series, his shield looked unconvincing and unremarkable with the cloth variation. Yet, when it would cut to the ZyuRanger footage, voila, he has something much more credible and convincing. Here, I am glad that the Shield looks like it could protect him or anyone else for that matter from a dark power blast from Ryu. This also goes for the rest of the suit which has had a similar principle employed onto it where it looks like Armour and not just a spandex suit (gotta love the 90's). I was very entertained by it and it's definitely on-par with his fight as the White Ranger against Scorpion. The Cinematography is just Grade A Awesome all the way and I like that Bat in the Sun actually go to the effort of making these fantasy matchups happen for fans that have wanted to see dream matches like this. May the Power protect you.
